Local Earth Day Events

April 13, 2019

Earth Day is April 22 and the annual observance is planned by AFFEW (A Few Friends for the Environment of the World) for Saturday, April 13. The 2019 events will be held at the United Methodist Church, 5810 Bryant Road, Ludington, from 10am to 5pm.

The 2019 Earth Day theme is "Earth Day- Protect Our Species."

The 2019 schedule includes the following events.


10am - Meditation, Al Haslam
10:30am - Qigong, Lynne Haslam

11am-12pm - Workshops

Native Plants, Rain Gardens Storm Water Management- Carolyn Thayer
DIY Green Cleaning Products - The Green Gals

1pm-2pm - Workshops

Healthy from the Ground Up - Dr. Kathy Niemeyer
Friends & Foes: Organic Insect Management - John Ferree


2:30-3:30pm - Hunting and Fishing: A Legacy of Protecting Natural Resources - Nick Green and Shaun Mckeon
4-5pm - Climate Update: Your Health and Your Community - Dr. Patricia Koman, Dr. Richard Norton

Kids activities

Live Animal Show - 12:30pm
John Ball Zoo Animal Exhibit - 1:30-3:30pm
Turtles & Snakes (Ludington State Park), Button Making and Fish Printing (AFFEW), animal hides, petunia planting, Family Hike 11am & 2pm (led by Dave Dister)

Other Earth Day Activities

Ludington & Scottville Libraries - Earth Day Celebrations on Monday, April 22, 4pm at the Mason County District Libraries in Ludington and Scottville. Join us for an afternoon of earth-friendly fun, games, activities, and snacks.

Sandcastles Children's Museum - Create a simple Earth Day Project on Friday, April 19 from 10am-1pm at Sandcastles Children's Museum. Create an easy craft with your little ones for Earth Day. The tunnel mazes, sensory table, and parachute will be out for even more fun! Admission is $7 per person (under 1 year old is free) Members just come on in!
